Met with a long time friend for breakfast, in fact he was the best man @ my wedding years ago. Now it is way to hot to run, or even sit outdoors. Guess I worked that out ok????? ( wink, wink, wink )
I now have that appt. with the liver cancer surgeon for tomorrow @ 8:30 AM. Will discuss what to expect, timing of surgery and other pertinent info about this upcoming operation.
Will keep you updated as I know things. Next up is the PET scan for Thursday.
God Bless and thanks again for the thoughts and prayers. Captain

Early run Sunday Morning
6:15 am, already 70 with 95% humidity. Ran good, 1.7 miles, notice I said ran instead of jogged. Felt good and know the speed was better, probably getting close to the 10 Min a mile mark. Still not wearing a watch but it my be time to wear one to get an updated time to check progress. But not every day because you'll drive yourself crazy. It would be like driving a car on a 200 mile trip and watching every mile turn over on the odometer.
This won't be a very long post compared to yesterday. Going to shower and go to church in a bit.
God Bless you all, and thanks for the prayers and positive energy. Captain

Sorry about NO Posts
Mind has been somewhere else the last few days, things are now happening fast in the cancer department, and God is beside me every step of the way. On Weds, John and his wife were in town after visiting family in Mich. for the July 4th week end. You may remember that John is my friend who is running the MINI next May here in Indy. The one who I was going to run into the ground.....lol. Well, I will push his sorry body across the finish line in front of me to show my friendship. You can't have a better friend.
So I called him on Weds. morning and we made plans to meet here at the house for a lunch and visit time. Well, we laughed, ate and prayer together with his wife and John's father for over 4 hours. What an afternoon. So obviously I took a rest day to enjoy the time together.
Thursday I just didn't want to run, it was hot ( no excuse ). Had an appt with the Oncologist on Friday, maybe had that on my mind ( no excuse ) . I just wanted to see who was reading and paying attention, also I just didn't have anything new to say until after seeing the Dr. on Friday.
So here goes, the dr. ( a very nice guy, took lots of time to explain things to us ) gave us so much information that we were possibly numb for awhile and had to take time to digest it. My wife and daughter were with me, and it's like watching a robbery or car accident where we all heard and saw something different.
Basic facts are, Dr is 95% sure I have " bile duct cancer " which of course is rare. You can google it and read to your hearts content. Only about 7,000 cases in US each year, compared to 200,000 for breast cancer. So right away you can that less research is done here than on the disease that affects 200,000 people. Chemo and radiation is not very effective on it. The only way to cure it and remove it from your system is to have surgery and remove it.
Now, could my cancer be operated on, because of the size of the tumor, while in the office calls were made to a " liver cancer surgeon to ask that question. It took til about 7PM Friday night to find out that they didn't see any problem to perform surgery and remove the cancer and part of the liver, about a 6 hour surgery.
More later, I have to eat some waffles now.
Ok, am back after waffles, sold the Mustang ( I loved that car ) but it freed up $$$$ for what is ahead, and being a convertible, now is the time.
This is getting pretty long, so, on Tuesday I have an appt with a "liver cancer surgeon" to discuss the operation, length of operation, time of recovery, etc. Thurs, I have a PET scan which looks for any other cancer in the body from head to toes, just to make sure we don't put out 1 fire only to discover another one later. On Friday appt with Oncologist again to discuss PET scan results and date of surgery.
Hows that for a medical week of appts.
God Bless you all so much, I know that we are on the right path with God at our side. Captain

Early run again, Pushed the distance
It was a cool 66 degrees here @ 6:45 I decided I had developed a mental block against running farther than 1.7 miles. So I jogged 2.3 miles this morning. Yes, my mind said " stop, what are you doing", " you can't go that far", But I persevered and did it anyways. I just felt I was stuck in that comfort zone and had to push through. Now more is on the horizon.
Remember, we're still talking "baby steps" here, but we have to start to slowly increase the distance. Tomorrow I will probably only plan about 1 mile to rest after a 1.7 jog and a 2.3 jog on 2 successive days.
Nothing has changed on the cancer front until the appt with the Oncologist on Friday. Will keep you posted.
Again thank you everyday for the thoughts and prayers.
God Bless, Captain

Happy July 4th
Jogged early this am, about 6:45, felt good, but my mind was slow to grasp the idea. After I got my breathing in rhythm it became a lot easier. Not much more to say. Last weeks total was 4.5 miles, highest so far for 1 week was 6.6 but that was walking and jogging, so I'm getting there. I can tell you one thing, I much prefer to run in the winter than this hot weather.
Yesterday I went to see my parents, hadn't seen them face to face since Father's Day, called my sister and her kids down so they could see I was still me, had hair, wasn't a cripple, etc. I think it helped her children.
Be Safe this Holiday, careful with the fireworks.
God Bless, Captain

Saturday was busy
9 am - Down to help the son landscape, it was good for him as he is having an emotional time, afraid to talk to me on the phone for fear of breaking up. He was able to see that I was still the same guy, able to work as hard as ever ( ????? ) lol. And it was just good to see him and talk it through. Went to Applebee's for lunch, got home @ 1:45 took a shower and a nap.
Then @ 5 PM back to daughter's for a BBQ festival and fireworks, got home @ 11:45 PM.
Did you see any time to run in there, I didn't. Good thing I started with a full year to train for the Mini, Uh!!!!!!
God Bless, Captain
Wait till you hear my next incredible idea, to take you with me to cancer treatments.

Onward to Oncologist
I have an appt. with an Oncologist at the IU Simon Cancer center in Downtown Indy next Friday, July 8th. It's at 1 PM and just maybe we will be presented with a treatment plan that can get started to kick this baby to the curb. Nothing against all baby's, don't turn me in to some Government Dept., Social Security is all over me anyways. lol
It's nice and cool out right now, but I sure don't feel like running.
God Bless and thanks everyday for the thoughts and prayers, Captain
